about

Several artists at Church of the Resurrection were invited to write an original song and perform it during an all-night Easter vigil service. This song is a response to Ezekiel 36:24-28 and is based on the theme "New Heart, New Spirit."

lyrics

I left the household of my father
Went in search of better offers
Cast my lot among the scoffers
And kept their company

I fled the sulfur out of Sodom
But my tears were soon forgotten
As I turned back to gaze in longing
They crystallized inside of me

Oh, how my heart was hardened
Oh, how my sight was darkened
Oh, who would come to my rescue?
Only you

We served our gods of alabaster
The things we made became our master
And like figures cast in plaster
We became like them

So take the chisel and the hammer
To the image that enamored me so
Set me free of the enamel
This prison that surrounds my soul

Take this heart of stone
Break these feet of clay
I’m crumbling down from the dust
to the dust returned

Every seed the sower scatters
Every sheave the reaper gathers
Every reed beside the waters
Has to die to be born again
